A Letter from Derek & Jennifer
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us! We’re a family that honors traditional values and feel called to grow our family through the gift of adoption once more. We will provide your child with a stable home, a childhood full of wonder, and endless love and support. We look forward to learning more about you and your hopes and dreams for your child. We understand and value open adoption and are more than open to sharing letters, pictures, and visits with your child.
When we met through a mutual friend, it was love at first sight. God’s plan took hold! God is the center of our lives and we attend a Bible-based church with a vibrant family ministry program.
Quality family time is cherished in our home. Sometimes that means travel, hiking and snowshoeing or it may include time around the dinner table enjoying a home cooked meal, or enjoying a sunset from our deck. All that we do, we do together and we love it! We were blessed to adopt our son, Elijah, in 2018. He loves to listen to his dad play the guitar and read stories with mom. We are excited to welcome another child into our lives and look forward to sharing our passions with them.
Jennifer is compassionate, thoughtful, caring, and hardworking. Immediately after the birth of our adopted son, Jennifer left her corporate career to become a stay at home wife and mama and she LOVES it! Jennifer loves to have fun and has a great sense of adventure. During the week you can find her at Women’s Bible Study or swim lessons with Elijah. She spends a lot of time cooking and baking, taking long walks through the countryside and gardening in our spacious yard.
Jennifer naturally gravitates to children. Before moving to Washington, she was a Sunday School teacher and taught ballet at her local dance studio. She’s looking forward to nurturing your child, sharing our faith and creating lifelong memories. She is a loving and amazing wife and an incredible mother.
Derek is a strong man with a tender and loving heart who is deeply rooted in his faith. He’s a devoted father, a talented pilot, a treasured neighbor and friend, and a wonderful husband. One of the things I admire most about Derek is his service to others above himself. For more than 20 years, he served as an aviator in the United States Marine Corps. I am humbled by his sacrifice, love for his country and his commitment – it speaks volumes about the man that he is.
His hobbies include skiing, playing the guitar, woodworking, and barbequing in the backyard for family and friends. His favorite thing to do is put Elijah into his hiking carrier and head out for a hike or to gather firewood. Derek is looking forward to sharing the Lord, his interests, and our loving family with your child.
Jennifer has a close-knit family and feels blessed to have many lifelong friends. Derek has two adult children who are both married. All of our friends and family are excited to welcome your child!
Every day is a gift to be treasured in our home. We love to celebrate holidays with family and friends. Sometimes that means traveling to family for holidays or hosting in our home. The Christmas season is our favorite – the tree is up and decorated by Thanksgiving and we carry forward the celebration through the New Year. And we make sure every family member is celebrated in a BIG way on their birthdays – it’s a special time for us. We’re eager to create new family traditions and special memories with your child.
We have a three bedroom home with a cozy cabin interior situated on three acres covered in tall pine trees. There’s plenty of room to run around and play for children and our three sweet dogs. Natural light beams through our large windows that offer a gorgeous mountain view and beautiful sunsets on summer nights. Across the road, horses eat out in the pasture yet we live only 30 minutes from a big city, great schools, some of the best skiing, hiking trails, restaurants, theaters, and sports arenas.
We promise to support your child throughout his or her life. We’ll provide unconditional love, an excellent education, and a structured, nurturing environment for them to grow into the person they are meant to be. We will share our faith and passions with him or her and encourage them to follow their dreams. We are open to sharing visits, letters, and photos with you if you would be comfortable!

More About Our Family
Our Special Interests
Derek can do anything, fix anything or build anything! When he's not flying around the world as a commercial airline pilot, he chopping down trees, splitting wood for our wood burning stove or remodeling the house. Whether it's plumbing, flooring, painting or building custom cabinets and barn doors, he's truly resourceful! Next, he's building a table out of reclaimed wood for our dining room. He is extremely talented, hard-working and an incredible provider.
Jennifer loves to cook, bake and garden. She can often be found in the kitchen making homemade soup or baked goods for neighbors and friends. With three acres of property, there's a lot of "garden" to maintain. She enjoys landscaping and tending to her plants and flowers. This year she is going to try her hand at vegetables.
Together, we love to travel, hike, snowshoe and ski with Elijah.
We are God loving Christians who believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Each Sunday we attend a Bible-based church which has a vibrant family and youth ministry. Weekly Derek attends a men's Bible study and small group and Jennifer attends women's Bible study with over 200 women. Our son Elijah was recently dedicated to the Lord and it was a beautiful celebration of his life and prayers and blessings for our family. We are committed to raising our children in a God-centered household and will nurture their love for Jesus Christ and encourage building a lifelong relationship with Him.
Our Musical Interest
There are three guitars hanging in our living room and our son Elijah claps his hands when Derek grabs one off the wall. Derek is self-taught and has learned a wide range of songs - from Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star to Wagon Wheel. His playlists include everything from Red Dirt Country to Irish Folk Music to Christian Rock. When a favorite tune comes on, he'll start two-stepping around the kitchen.
Jennifer studied ballet most of her life and taught for several years as well. She appreciates a wide range of music including Broadway, Christian, Classical, Jazz, Motown...and of, course Children's Music! As a dancer, she appreciates having a musician in the house.
Together, our favorite is Christmas music in any form!
Our Son and his story
We were not only blessed to add Elijah to our family but his birth mom, too. We formed an immediate and special bond. The day we met, she came around the corner with her arms stretched beyond her pregnant belly and gave us a huge bear hug. The days and weeks that followed included quality time getting to know one another over meals and going to doctor appointments together to listen to baby Elijah's heartbeat. When the delivery day came, we took her the hospital and stayed by her side. Together we welcomed Elijah into the world. We continue to stay in touch with her and connect via text and phone and share photos regularly. It has been a wonderful experience.
Our Children & Family
Derek has two grown children. Derek's son and his wife both have great jobs in Texas where they live with their two dogs. Derek's daughter is married to an Air Force pilot and have a sweet baby boy. Together we adopted a newborn baby boy named Elijah Christopher. He is bright, funny, and his smile with simply melt your heart. Elijah loves story time, banging on his daddy's guitars and swimming lessons.
Between the two of us, we have three sets of adoring grandparents - they live in Michigan and Minnesota. We both have older brothers and have three nephews and a niece between us. We're blessed to have such a wonderful circle of friends - many that date back decades and are referred to as "aunt" and "uncle."
We live in the state of...
We live in the state of Washington. There are so many things to see and do here, whether it's taking advantage of the mountain views, endless hikes and trails or snow skiing in the winter. The Pacific Northwest is a spectacular place to live and raise a family. The rivers, lakes and waterfalls are simply gorgeous. Summers here are perfect and the winters offer a temperate climate with occasional snow outside of the mountain ranges.
We live in a quiet rural area on the outskirts of a major city. In the mornings we can hear the roosters crow, during the day we enjoy taking walks so we can pick wild blackberries along the horse and goat pastures and after the sunset, we can gaze up at the night sky and count the stars. We are so truly blessed to live in a beautiful home and to be surrounded with kind and generous neighbors. Recently, all the neighbors pitched in to remove fallen trees from the road and cleared the snow on the main road after a storm. Everyone takes care of one another, offers to go on errands or lend a hand when needed.
