|More About Our Family
Our Special Interests
Steve is interested in playing soccer with local pick up groups. He is also very active in his interest in nature through bird watching and volunteering at local parks to combat invasive species and create natural habitats.
Mary is interested in cooking new foods, especially trying out new gluten-free recipes. Mary also loves to read and tends to read in Spanish to keep up her Spanish skills.
Both Mary and Steve enjoy hiking and traveling, either abroad to experience new cultures, or within the US to check out the beautiful National Parks and for Steve to see new birds.
Our faith is an integral part of our daily lives. Our faith guides every decision we make and keeps us strong and reliant on God in all circumstances. We both grew up Catholic and attend weekly mass and several other Church events throughout the year. Mary works at a Catholic school in order to have the opportunity to share her faith with her students.
Our Musical Interest
We both lovely country music and going every summer to see Zac Brown Band has become a tradition for us. We also enjoy Blue Grass, pop, Latino, contemporary and Irish music. Steve sometimes plays the guitar and Mary likes to sing with the school choir whenever possible. We love to go to the local Irish Festival each year and check out new bands at free summer concerts.
About Our Home
Our home is cozy with three bedrooms and one bath. Half of our property is wooded which is taken care of by Steve, and we also have a garden which is taken care of by Mary.
We really have enjoyed incorporating traditions from both sides of our family and making new ones!
For Saint Patrick's Day, we always start with a hearty Irish breakfast, go to the city's big parade, and then to see Mary's favorite Irish band, Guaranteed Irish.
For Easter we make intricate crosses out of palm branches from Steve's Sicilian heritage. We also make a basket to be blessed at a Polish Holy Saturday mass filled with Easter morning breakfast foods of kielbasa, hard boiled eggs, a lamb made from butter, and bread.
In May, we go to Magee Marsh to find warblers, which are a tiny bird that migrate from as far as South America!
On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we watch the Ohio State vs Michigan State and cheer on Ohio State because Steve's dad went there and we have a great spread of snacks!
In the winter, we go owling, which consists of either going to a local park where they catch and release tiny little sawhet owls, listening for owls in our neighborhood, or keeping an eye out for owl sightings by others.
On St Nicholas day in December, Mary's family gets together to decorate her parents' house for Christmas and everyone gets goodies in their shoes.
For Christmas, we go to the nursing home where Mary's father works to wish the residents a Merry Christmas and celebrate mass.
We live in the state of...
Pennsylvania! Mary loves the hills of Pennsylvania and Steve has taken every opportunity to learn about the birds and trees nearby. There is a lot of history in our state and parks full of trails for great hikes and birding.
Our neighborhood is a two block dead end in a suburb. Our neighbors are the type to come together to recharge a battery in negative temperatures (true story for Mary!), to have a “beach” for the children during the summer and to all go trick or treating together. We also have a block party every few years. We are not far from parks, ice cream shoppes, our church, and a Science Center.
