A Letter from Anthony & Sara

We’re an Air Force family of three that’s currently stationed in Japan! We’re so excited to adopt again and would love to welcome a boy, girl, or sibling set of any race into our family. We cherish parenthood and feel fortunate to have a loving, stable, and Christian home to share. We enjoy meals around the table, bedtime stories and prayers, laughter, special traditions, and outdoor adventures as a family and we are excited to share it all with your child. We look forward to getting to know you and learning about your hopes for your child and for this adoption journey.

About Us

We got married over twelve years ago and spent nearly a decade laying a solid foundation on which to build our family. Adoption has always been in our hearts. We were incredibly blessed to adopt our son, Elijah, as a newborn in 2018, and we still keep in touch with his wonderful birth mom. Our life in Japan provides us with seemingly endless opportunities for rich cultural experiences, fun travel excursions, and trying so much unique and delicious food! We love being outside, whether we’re enjoying a hike, sharing a meal under the patio twinkle lights, playing at the park, or gathering the neighbors for an outdoor movie night. We appreciate the financial security and sense of community and adventure that being a military family brings to our lives and are excited to share all of its blessings with your child.

About Anthony

Anthony is wise, dependable, caring, playful, and his sense of duty, honor, and adventure led him to become a military pilot. He flies one of the more family-friendly aircrafts in the Air Force, so his work travel is quite minimal and he’s home for dinner most nights. Anthony is a gifted musician, runs marathons, has made some beautiful wooden furniture for our home, and cooks the most delicious food (he’s also officially been designated “Future Math Homework Helper”). Anthony is a silly, hands-on, and consistent father who prioritizes adventure, guidance, and support in all our son does and he is excited to provide the same for our next child. He was also adopted himself and is able to offer that valuable perspective as we parent.

About Sara

Sara is an empathetic and kind-hearted person who immediately puts the people around her at ease.  She is a loving and devoted mother, and her minimal work hours as an in-home preschool teacher give her the opportunity to spend lots of quality time with our son each day! She looks forward to including another child in their walks around the neighborhood, playground trips, picnics, storytime snuggles, and baking projects. Sara loves any excuse to be creative and is famous among our circles for her awesome theme parties. She enjoys reading, writing, and music and is excited to sing to our next child.

Our Son and Family

Elijah is a super friendly and fun-loving explorer who’s a fan of reading stories, eating waffles, and racing toy cars across the living room floor. He loves to help in the kitchen, and the outdoors is his happy place. Extroverted and nurturing, Elijah is thrilled to become a big brother! He is excited to share everyday adventures, and we know that the sibling bond our children will share will be a forever friendship.

Your child will have doting grandparents, awesome uncles and aunts, and nine fun and sweet first cousins. Our entire extended family lives in Virginia and is greatly supportive of our plans to adopt again.

Our Home in Japan

We live in a fantastic area about ninety minutes from downtown Tokyo and are within several miles of various zoos, parks, pools, restaurants, fun stores, and festival sites. We have a comfortable home with an extra bedroom ready to be turned into your child’s room. We are in a large gated community with lots of kids, sidewalks, and nice playgrounds, one of which is located next to our house. We have a beautiful and fragrant plum blossom tree in our backyard, and we enjoy decorating the front yard and outside of our house for Christmas and other holidays.

Our Promise

We promise to love your child with all of our hearts and to teach them about the love of God. We’re committed to celebrating their cultural heritage and will provide financial stability, personal respect, unconditional acceptance, and a lifetime of adventures. We’ll strive to nurture kindness, generosity, and confidence in them. We will always be their soft place to land, their haven of safety and security, and their biggest cheerleader. We promise to honor you, both with our words and in the way we raise your child. Your child will grow up knowing their adoption story and we look forward to sharing with you letters, pictures, and visits.

More About Our Family
Our Faith

Our faith is something at the very heart of our family, defining us and guiding us as we seek to live our best life. We believe Christianity is not about following a long list of rules to avoid the wrath of a distant invisible being but about experiencing the love of God so genuinely that it compels us to live well and imitate Christ, and this is something we hope to impart to our children. C.S. Lewis said it best when he wrote, "The Christian is in a different position from other people who are trying to be good...he does not think that God will love us because we are good but that God will make us good because he loves us.” We’re fortunate to be part of an awesome bilingual church here in Japan! Prayers, songs, and Bible stories are a few of the ways we’re introducing our toddler to our Christian faith.

Our Musical Interest

Music is what brought us together! We got to know each other while serving on a church worship team for the young adult ministry - Anthony played the keyboard and Sara was a background vocalist, although we both sing and play the piano. We love listening to different types of rock, pop, and classical music but are a house divided when it comes to rap (which Anthony likes) and country (which Sara likes). One thing we always try to do when we visit a new city is hit up a used record store and add to Sara's vinyl collection. When Elijah was a baby, he and Sara could often be found dancing in the living room to one of her Beatles records.

Adoption in our Family

We adopted our son, Elijah, as a newborn in 2018 and still keep in touch with his wonderful birth mom. We believe Elijah’s adoption is a special and important part of his journey, and when he turned one, we created a book for him that tells the story of how we became a family. He often asks to look at the photos in the book and listen to us read his adoption story, and we look forward to creating a special book for your son or daughter as well. Anthony was also adopted himself and is able to offer that valuable perspective as we parent.

Everyday Life

We love being outside and visit the park by our house almost daily so that Elijah can meet up with friends to enjoy the playground, dig in the dirt pit, ride bikes, and run around in the wide-open spaces. Sara does an in-home preschool for a couple of hours Mon-Thurs, and her background in education combines with her natural creativity to make her a fun teacher and mom who fills the mornings with art projects, sensory activities, and games. We eat dinner as a family each night, whether it’s a home-cooked meal or something at/from a local restaurant. Our evenings at home often include imaginative play, after-dinner walks, cuddling on the couch for a weekly movie night, and Elijah’s “popsicle baths” (he loves to sit in a warm bubble bath and eat a popsicle while we read to him.)

Traditions

We love traditions and rituals and appreciate the comfort and sense of belonging they bring throughout the year. We picture things like putting an annual “December Box” together for your child, doing our “Shepherd on the Search” Christmas countdown, and planning memorable birthday celebrations. We can’t wait to enjoy our traditional holiday meals and movies and books together, include your child in our family Halloween costumes and glow in the dark egg hunts, giggle over Saturday morning waffles, and have them join in our nightly “High, Low, Buffalo” discussion during dinner. We also get together with a great group of families from our church about once a week to go out for a meal, visit a park, or have a potluck brunch in someone’s home. We’re excited to add more traditions and rituals to our family as our children grow!

Our Neighborhood

We live in a fantastic area about ninety minutes from downtown Tokyo and Disneyland and are within several miles of various zoos, parks, pools, restaurants, fun stores, and festival sites. Our large gated community has lots of kids, sidewalks, and nice playgrounds, one of which is located next to our house. Our neighborhood truly shines in the springtime when all of the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom and make everything feel magical.
