|More About Our Family
Our Special Interests
We enjoy cooking together. We also enjoy going to sporting events, bowling, bike riding, the beach, and local festivals to listen to live music. We enjoy having date nights with dinner and a movie. We like to be outside whether it is going to the county fairs, ice skating, or going for walks with our 2 dogs. We enjoy quiet nights on the patio with a small fire. We also enjoy taking yearly vacations.
We are a Christian couple who go to church every Sunday. We are involved in a few ministries in church including Agape Go! which is a community service and outreach program. We are part of the Hospitality Committee where we greet members and visitors before the church service at the entrance to the church. We are also involved in the Welcoming Committee where each quarter we meet and have a luncheon with the newest members and visitors of the church.
Our Musical Interest
We love listening to live music and go to local festivals to listen to bands play. We love to put music on the t.v. and sing and dance while we cook or clean.
Family holidays and traditions
Holidays are spent in a very traditional way. Easter is started with a church breakfast and then dinner with family. 4th of July is parades, cookouts, and fireworks. We do a fall family picnic close to Halloween where we cookout, hike trails, and carve pumpkins. We do Thanksgiving with Rayna's parents and do the yearly ornament exchange that she has been doing since she was young. The day after is spent with Joel's big family to celebrate. Leading up to Christmas it is spent with family decorating, visiting, and gift exchanges. We also enjoy going to the local tree-lighting where they have carolers and ice skating. New Years Eve we have friends over for dinner and game night.
Rayna's career goal is to start working as a Cardiac Sonographer. I recently finished school and after the adoption will look to start my new position in that field. Either in the same hospital I am currently at or another one closer to home.
Joel plans on continuing his career in the military until retirement where there is plenty of room for advancement. I am already halfway to the 20 year mark and plan on taking advantage of all the benefits the military offers, especially the ones for our future child. The military offers great benefits to include health insurance and education benefits so our child can go to college. I will soon be promoted to Captain and will take on a commanding position.
We live in the state of...
We live in a quiet neighborhood with a good school system. There is an elementary school at the end of our block. We have great neighbors. We have a big fenced in back yard for the dogs and kids to play in. There's a bike path 2 blocks from our house to enjoy walks on. "The region", what we call northwest Indiana, is made up of close suburban towns near Chicago so we have a good amount of diversity and culture, but it's far enough outside the city so it's not too crowded and there is plenty of open space and nature to enjoy. Our community is very active with carnivals, music festivals, weekly movie night and other community involved events.
